IS IT TRUE IF I HAVE MY CARPET CLEANED..?
People always seem to know best. There’s an Uncle that knows everything about engines, an Auntie that wrote the book on cooking. But usually, things that are a little untrue and long winded get tangled up in the line of information and can somehow over time, become gospel.
CARPET CLEANING MYTHS DEBUNKED
VACUUM YOUR CARPET AND RUG TOO MUCH AND IT WILL WEAR OUT.
No! As well as being a great form of exercise, vacuuming your fibres regularly with a correctly set up machine will do the fluffy stuff the world of good. A bit like a massage and de-dust all in one go.
Don’t forget, rugs and carpets will hold onto a lot of particles from the air, the air you breathe in. Thus your air is actually cleaner when you have clean carpets and rugs.
This is especially true if you live by the main road that may contain a lot of pollution.
CARPETS GET RUINED BY PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
No again! (Well not when Dirtbusters clean them!) To be fair, years ago carpets were cleaned with sticky soapy solutions. These were difficult to remove from the fibres due to underpowered extraction units. Nowadays, we pros use detergent free cleaning agents, along with souped-up extraction machines in order to leave the carpets as good and fresh as the day they were laid.
YOU SHOULD WAIT UNTIL THE CARPET LOOKS DIRTY BEFORE GETTING IT CLEANED.
Sorry but it’s another no. When you see a carpet that is visually soiled, this usually simply means the carpet is full, and I mean full of dirt! Look at question one- and vac vac vac.
DRY CARPET CLEANING IS THE NEW BEST THING.
Well yes, yes it is. Well if you are part of a dry carpet cleaning franchise that is.
The sales angle is great – carpets dry straight away etc, but in reality, we need to flush the soils out. Ask any carpet manufacturer what they recommend. It will not be dry carpet cleaning!
CLEAN A CARPET AND IT WILL SHRINK.
What’s needed to shrink a carpet is usually too much water – overwetting can cause shrinkage. I have been carpet cleaning for over 10 years and not had a shrinker yet!
WHY HIRE A PRO WHEN I CAN GET A DIY MACHINE IN THE SUPERMARKET?
Ask the customer services desk if they have many complaints from customers returning these underpowered, sticky soapy cleaning contraptions. Overwet, smelly, shrinking etc etc
These are just a few ‘facts’ de-bunked. No doubt I’ll be back soon enough to add some more!
